humorous gen z style reviews!

  • The gigachad himself, Saiki K

Man, when I first heard of this anime thanks to the popular YouTuber himself, Schaffrillas Productions, I knew it was going to be very special. This anime has everything I could ever want in a slice of life anime: wacky Chowder-esque humor, a gang of oddball side characters, and a stoic protagonist who is also incredibly OP!

This anime seems pretty hilarious, I’ll tell you that much, and SPOILER ALERT: it is! The main premise of this anime is basically the same thing I said a few sentences ago!

Saiki himself (according to some people on Reddit, Saiki’s surname “Kusuo” translates to shit, or more PG-rated, feces!) is a 16 year old boy who has to try living a ho-hum, forgettable life as a high schooler, with a bunch of wacky side characters forcing him to play in their shenanigans, much to his dismay! It’s basically a predictable show, where Saiki learns to appreciate his many friends after helping them (much to his reluctance)!

But, the anime, along with its surreal, idiotic comedy, actually works! It’s basically Mob Psycho 100’s (speaking of, I might discuss my thoughts on this anime after I finish this review) hilarious slice of life escapades as a whole anime! This anime has really great jokes and delivery, mostly because of Saiki himself’s hilarious snarky performance. His English dub actor, Jerry Jewell, does a wonderful job keeping up with Saiki’s sarcastic tone of voice and having to deal with everyone’s bullcrap.

But my personal favorite character, if you have seen my YouTube shorts, has got to be Nendou himself!

A picture of the silly skrunklo, Nendou!

Honestly I really like Nendou, idk why! He’s just a goofy dumbass who makes me laugh everytime he’s on screen. My favorite part of the anime has got to be the scene where Saiki encounters Nendou’s father (who looks a lot like Nendou himself) as a ghost where he harasses him unintentionally! Poor Saiki just wants some space, but this scene is hilarious!

And I like the part where Saiki’s mom angrily orders him to go to the beach with his friend Nendou. God, there are so many god-tier scenes, I could fill up this entire blog.

But not to say that this anime is flawless, however. There are a few characters I really dislike, and one of them is Teruhashi’s brother (I forgot his name and I don’t give a rat’s buttocks), and he’s basically the perverted brother crushing on his sister, and it gets pretty old quickly. And the creepy purple haired pervert who stares at porn magazines is really annoying, which doesn’t help matters when he takes up a lot of screen time.

But those problems are nitpicks, and I cannot help but enjoy Saiki K! I highly recommend this anime if you want a goofy comfort watch and want to see stupid characters do stupid shit! That’s the end. Toodles!

(Also, the Season 1 End Credits is fucking wholesome and a complete banger.)
