I may have been a liiiittlllleeee bit late on the Harry Potter hype train, because HBO Max had shat out a useless remake on the Harry Potter series about a couple weeks ago. And looking at the trailer, I know this is what hell looks like (well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration) and I know HBO Max simply doesn’t give a rat’s buttocks in the slightest.

Because I know HBO Max once had a rancid Scooby Doo remake not that long ago, with a misleading title called “Velma”, which has nothing to do with the Scooby Doo branding and has it slapped onto it for marketing’s sake. Thankfully, that godawful show is no longer available due to cancellation. One of the only things I’m glad will never see the light of day, let’s be honest.

So, back to Harry Potter’s so-called “remake”, it seems to be basically the same as the movies, but with different actors. It kind of reminds me of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series, where Jeff Kinney decided to conjure up a useless franchise of animated remakes because he “wanted the movies to be adjusted to be better than the books”.

And the trailer itself, while it looks visually pleasant, is just a watered-down version of the Harry Potter franchise. And I didn’t like how they disrespected my boi Hagrid! Like, COME ON!!! Nick Frost (who I had no idea who the fuck was), plays the role of Hagrid, and he doesn’t have the same gruff, pirate-esque voice as the Hagrid from the original movies. I get it that the original actor had died, but can’t the new actor try to sound like he did in the books and original movies to match the charm?

My favorite aspect of the Harry Potter films is the charm and whimsy of the fantasy world, and the remake had nipple-sucked it out of existence, leaving a soulless remake that nobody ever asked for. You can feel that when you see the trailer, as it doesn’t have any Harry Potter essence. You can replace the remake’s Harry Potter branding with anything else, and it be just like any other show on HBO Max.
